Citation: For exceptional leadership, initiative and ingenuity in coaching and encouraging high school science students to develop quality research projects to support natural resource decisions involving National Forest Multiple Use Management. For helping interested teenagers to use National Forest land as a science lab helping resolve controversial resource issues.

Presented to: The employees of the National Forests of Mississippi and Incident Teams involved in the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts on and adjacent to the National Forest.
Citation: For extraordinary and unprecedented accomplishments in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina contributing to the restoration of a healthy forest and critical wildlife habitat while doing so in an expeditious, effective and safe manner. Over 305 million board feet of damaged timber was recovered and 1,400 miles of roads were cleared and opened to public use. Extensive efforts to reduce hazardous fuels in the wildland/urban interface, installing 135 cavity inserts for the Red-Cockaded Woodpecker, and numerous miles of forest trails reopened to the public. More than a half million individuals were directly assisted or benefitted in the surrounding communities.
